The detail of Hogarth's Rake's Progress, Plate 8 that it's all about

Readers of this blog will know how much I am interested in the power of images and the possibilities of digital. One of the subtexts of my PhD was how important I think new possibilities for digital research are and how they are changing traditional academic practices.

I've therefore been very proud and excited recently to work with the Paul Mellon Centre on their new digital journal British Art Studies. I've produced the 'Look First' feature for Issue 2 using a selection of images from my PhD to think about a 'period eye' for the longitude problem. The introductory article came out this week. The series of images will follow in June with attached commentary by me and experts in various fields along with a Twitter tour of the associated London locations. Please have a read and watch this space for more longitude to look at soon.
