In front of some impressive hoarding artwork in Auckland

In front of some impressive hoarding artwork in Auckland

I write this from a hotel room in the centre of Auckland, New Zealand. I'm excited to say that a colleague and I are in the Pacific for 3.5 weeks, travelling onto Australia and Fiji after New Zealand. Sacha is the Community Participation Producer at the museum, and I am here with my 'Pacific' hat on, as we're both part of the team working on a 'Pacific Encounters' gallery due to open in the National Maritime Museum in September 2018 as part of the Endeavour project.

The aims for this trip are many. Firstly to visit a number of museums here and look at how they are presenting the complex and difficult stories of encounter between Pacific peoples and Europeans. Secondly, to talk to colleagues here about community consultation and how we can develop ours. Thirdly to talk about our gallery plans. And fourthly to do some consultation and filming for the gallery itself.

We arrived this morning and, like true zealots, have already checked out the excellent New Zealand Maritime Museum and Auckland Art Gallery, photographing, discussing and tweeting our way around. We'll be tracking our trip on Twitter using the hashtag #KSEndeavours, so do keep an eye out.
